De Beers Marine
Stability, inclining experiments and motion analysis for the De Beers Marine diamond mining fleet, with our onboard stability software installed on every vessel.
Client
De Beers Marine
Work
Inclining, stability and motion analysis
Software
Triton Onboard Stability Program on every vessel
Stability partner to the fleet
Over the years, Triton has performed virtually all of the stability calculations and documentation for the De Beers Marine diamond mining vessels, and has installed the Triton Onboard Stability Program on all of the De Beers vessels.
Post-refit inclining and stability, 2015–2016
Five De Beers mining vessels completed plant refits over two years, each culminating in an inclining experiment and new stability documentation calculated by Triton for Class approval, along with our onboard stability program.
- MV !Gariep (2015)
- MV Grand Banks (2015)
- Mafuta (2016)
- Debmar Pacific (2016)
- Nujoma (2016)
For Nujoma, De Beers’ new vessel, Triton carried out the inclining experiment for the designers, who completed the stability book themselves.

Motion analysis, 2014
During 2014, Triton performed extended motion analysis on all of the De Beers Marine mining vessels, including the new vessel then being built in Norway. The aim was to establish a single dynamic design factor for each vessel at a given location, for use in all design calculations for current and future mining plants and drill towers. The analysis was run on Triton’s in-house motion simulation software.
Debmar Atlantic refit, 2013
The 2013 refit upgraded the 600 mm system to a 700 mm system, so weight management was critical: key decisions depended on final displacement and deadweight capacity for loadline and stability compliance.
A deadweight survey was carried out on arrival, and its results fed into weight, stability and motion simulations that guided the fitting of platforms and solid ballast. The project ended in December with a final inclining experiment and stability documentation for Class approval.
