The project

Every floating structure on the plant

Triton was contracted first by Aker Solutions and later by E-PC to design all of the floating structures on the Kenmare WCP-B plant, along with the strongback structures and the internal support stools for its high-load components.

  • 21 pontoons and support frames
  • Strongback structures
  • Support stools for the surge bin, sumps, pipe towers, pump stools and pipe bases
  • FEA, buoyancy, stability and mooring analysis

01Design

Initial design of the WCP-B plant

The 21 pontoons and all of the additional support structures were fabricated by SA Shipyards in Durban, then transported on barges to Moma, where they were assembled together with the plant above.

02Relocation · 2020

Relocation to Pilivili

In 2020, Kenmare relocated the 7,000-ton plant 23 km from the Namalope ore zone to the Pilivili ore zone, one of the largest moves of its kind.

Triton supported key structural and transport-related design: engineering verification, heavy-haul interface coordination, transport saddles, ground interface supports and operational planning.

03Repairs

Repairs and strengthening of the dredger

The WCP-B dredger, Deidre, was originally designed and built in the USA and assembled on site. Triton has been involved in numerous projects to deal with cracking and freeboard issues.
